Over the past year, I've purchased a lot of wood, and this piece was my first experience with - Sugar Maple. Unlike black walnut, it sanded quite differently and demanded meticulous attention to detail. This particular piece had numerous cracks that needed filling and some areas of rot that required removal. Despite the challenges, the result was another gorgeous ashtray that would look stunning on any end table.
